CBB: MOREHEAD ST over E. Kentucky
Morehead St qualifies in a very strong late season (to include conference tournaments) angle as dogs of +3.5-9.5 pts that are off an upset win as a double digit dog are 43-14 ATS in February games, and road dogs in this situation are 31-7 ATS since 1997. Statistically, these teams are not all that different. Using common opponents we find that Morehead St averaged 65.7 pts per game and allowed 64 pts per game, while Eastern Kentucky averaged 66.5 pts per game and allowed 62.4 pts. Those are pretty similar numbers, and it’s again almost identical if you look at shooting percentages in those common opponent games. Eastern Kentucky beat Morehead St twice this season (by 8 pts both times), but historically this has been a series that Morehead St has dominated going 8-3 SU in the 11 previous meetings prior to this season. I’ll take the points in this Ohio Valley 1st rounder.
Best to all,
Rick

Wednesday, Feb 28:
MINNESOTA +13.5 over Purdue
Minnesota limps into their final game having lost 7 consecutive games, but they have been somewhat competitive in those games going 3-4 ATS. Overall, they are 5-4 ATS last 9 games. Purdue, meanwhile, has two more games with both being at home so that means the focus will be on senior night which is Saturday against Northwestern. Little focus will be on the lowly Gophers here tonight. Yes, I realize that Purdue is 14-1 SU (8-3 ATS) at home this season, while Minnesota is just 1-11 SU on the road. However, Minnesota actually matches up well against Purdue as evidenced by the fact that they are 5-1 SU last 6 meetings, including a 65-59 upset win back in January. The dog in this series is also 7-1-1 (one pick-em) last 10, and a big reason Minnesota matches up so well is the fact that Purdue has so much trouble with slow-down tempo teams. As a matter of fact, Purdue is just 20-38 ATS over the years versus teams that average 53 or less shots per game, and a mere 10-28 ATS if that game is in the 2nd half of the season. Purdue is also just 7-16 ATS off an ATS cover, and 29-48 ATS after covering 2 of their last 3 games. Take the points with the Gophers!
